Cressa Mclaren
Cressa is a Glasgow-based glass artist and curator, specialising in kiln-formed glass. After studying Architectural Glasswork at the City of Glasgow College and welcoming her second child, she founded Cressa’s GlassWorks in 2006. From her Glasgow studio, Cressa creates contemporary decorative pieces for the home, producing distinctive designs ranging from tableware and lighting to her signature collection, Glass Meadow, as well as bespoke commissioned works.
Cressa practice is inspired by a lifelong love of flowers, colour, and contrast. Growing up between rural Southern Ireland, London, and India, alongside cherished moments in her grandmother’s garden, has nurtured a deep passion for botanical forms in all their variety. Fresh, vibrant, and playful, her work often reimagines nature while also echoing the bold, stylised retro designs of the 1950s.
Cressa primarily works with kiln-formed Bullseye glass, using techniques such as fusing, slumping, draping, and sandblasting the glass to achieve the strong outlines and striking contrasts that define her style.
Alongside her studio practice, Cressa is also a domestic and craft curator and is currently pursuing an MFA in Curatorial Practice at Dundee University.
